Wyoming has just 8 E85 stations for a state spanning 97,000+ square miles—meaning E85 stops can be 100+ miles apart. Despite having the highest FFV ownership per capita in the nation, infrastructure hasn't kept pace.
Wyoming produces minimal to no commercial ethanol. A former plant in Torrington reached 12 million gallons capacity in 2006 before closing. Wyoming isn't a corn-producing state—cattle ranching, wheat, hay, and sugar beets dominate. Ethanol must be trucked from Nebraska, Colorado, or other Corn Belt states.
Wyoming has no significant E85-specific incentives. The state's NEVI planning focuses entirely on EVs. Cold climate requires selling E70 as "E85" from October through May (winter blend) to ensure cold-start reliability.
Maverik is the primary E85 retailer. The Maverik at 3354 E Lincolnway, Cheyenne recently showed E85 at $1.99/gallon. Casper has limited options. The I-80 and I-25 corridors have very sparse E85 availability.
Virtually the entire state is a coverage gap: Northwestern Wyoming (Yellowstone region) has no coverage, Central Wyoming is very sparse, and I-80 across southern Wyoming is extremely limited. Distances between stations can exceed 100 miles.
Maverik Cheyenne showed E85 at $1.99/gallon—approximately 20% below gasoline. Winter E70 blends offer slightly better fuel economy than full E85.
Colorado is your E85 lifeline with 103 stations. Fort Collins, Greeley, and Denver offer good access. If entering Wyoming from the south, fill up in Wellington or Fort Collins. Nebraska provides eastern access with 111 stations. Montana has zero E85 stations—don't count on northern alternatives. Top off whenever you see E85 and be prepared to use regular unleaded between stations.
